Gives participants a competitive advantage

13. Why use OJE?
Leads to unsubsidized employment
Develops specific skills that aren’t attainable through regular community service assignments
Opportunity to work with for-profit organizations while enrolled in SCSEP

1-4 weeks: up to 100%
1-12 weeks: 50%
Note: Reimbursement must come from PWFB

Basic requirements
2 weeks at community service assignment first; detail in IEP
Prevailing wage
Don’t close out host agency assignment until OJE ends
Maintain copy of contract in participant file
Regular follow-up

Current host agencies cannot have OJEs

Other provisions
May combine with community service assignment / classroom training (not to exceed 40 total hours a week)
Participants: 1 OJE per 12 month period
Employers: 5 OJEs per job category per 12 month period

Approval process
Policy and sample contract must be attached to your grant agreement (see OWB 04-04)
Grants can be modified
Sub-grantees cannot use OJE unless a contract has been approved for the grantee
