Project Goal: Improve Highway Safety in Tennessee Project Objectives: Reduce HELP vehicle response times Demonstrate proof of concept of how CRASH can be ported into TMC environment to better position HELP Vehicles Establish foundation for future SmartWay ATMS development

3 Task 1-Gather Best Practices from Other Agencies
Virtual peer exchange with other agencies exploring ways to apply predictive analytics to improve traffic safety and operations Partner with NOCoE Candidate Agencies San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) Indiana DOT Minnesota DOT Maryland CHART Iowa DOT Deliverables: Best Practices Report

4 Conduct a one day Partnering and Training Workshop CRASH developers
Task 2. Conduct a TDOT Predictive Operations Partnering and Training Workshop Conduct a one day Partnering and Training Workshop CRASH developers THP representatives TDOT RTMC Managers other TDOT representatives Workshop Objectives Make the business case for why this will benefit travelers in Tennessee Demonstrate examples of how CRASH could be applied to transp. Mgmnt. Develop vision for applying predictive analytics to TDOT and THP’s traffic management processes Deliverables: Presentation (in Train-the-Trainer format), Meeting Summary, and Basic Action Plan

5 Tennessee Roadway Inventory Management Systems (TRIMS) data
Task 3. Coordinate with TDOSHS to further develop and refine the existing CRASH model for TDOT RTMC use Coordinate with Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (TDOSHS) to evaluate existing TDOT or external data sources that can be integrated into the CRASH predictive model Potential Sources: Locate IM Database, which includes HELP Truck Route Performance data, along with other historical incident management performance information TDOT SWIFT Data, which includes past, current, and future roadway closure data Tennessee Roadway Inventory Management Systems (TRIMS) data Refine existing model resolution outputs to include TDOT HELP service areas to increase applicability for RTMC operation Deliverables: Meeting Summaries, Action Item Tracking and Analysis

6 Task 4. Develop a predictive operations procedure for using outputs from newly incorporated data sources into CRASH Based on best practices and existing CRASH capabilities, develop a standard procedure for applying predictive analytics for HELP truck deployment and employee training materials Deliverables: Technical Memorandum that details procedures for obtaining data and integrating it for predictive HELP truck operations Revised Train-the-Trainer training materials based on proposed standard procedure

7 Task 5. Monitor Implementation Progress
Conduct one meeting per month for three months specifically focused on predictive operations Meeting Agendas will reflect the following goals: Determine what is working well and what could be improved for implementation Make changes to the procedure as needed Develop predictive operations case studies Deliverables: Coordination of three virtual meetings, virtual meeting materials, Summary Report of Lessons Learned, Benefits and Costs
