Medulla Pons Lower Part of the Brain Stem
Carries out and regulates life sustaining functions such as breathing, swallowing, and heart rate (Involuntary functions) Area of the hindbrain that sits directly above the medulla Connects upper and lower parts of the brain

Pons Medulla Damage to the Pons Damage to the Medulla
Loss of hearing, vision, taste, touch Inability to feel pain Abnormally low serotonin levels Damage to the Medulla Kidney failure or the inability to process toxins. Inability to rotate the head Numbness and paralysis of the palate
