Topics We study a range of topics in year 4 which include -
Stone Age to Iron Age Saxons, Scots and Vikings European Studies

Our Timetable Early work – morning starter, phonics / spelling
Numeracy Assembly Guided Reading Literacy PM Topic work (including Foundation subjects - Science, PE, Music, Geography, History, Art, RE, PHSE, DT and French

Literacy Regular SPaG (sometimes called EPGS or other acronyms!)
Talk for writing. Literacy sessions differentiated with guided and independent activities. Use of ICT to support learning. Opportunities for speaking and listening. Cross-curricular links to Topic.

Reading Children take part in a reading activity every day- either independently in pairs or as a group/whole class. Parent helpers valued and welcomed to listen to readers. DBS clearance will be required. Please remind your child to change their books regularly and please listen to them read at home. Please remember to question your children about their reading.

Numeracy Daily numeracy lesson which involves working in pairs, groups or individually. At home please talk to your child about their maths. Multiplication tables are very important to learn by mental recall, please help your child to practise these at home.

PE PE Session might happen on any day and so kit should be in school every day. Kit to be clearly named or labelled No jewellery – especially earrings, hair tied back. Encourage children to look after kit Kit should stay in school and be taken home at the end of each half term.

Homework Times tables homework goes out every Friday to be returned on the Wednesday. They will be tested on a Thursday. Spellings go out on Friday to be returned by Wednesday ready for spelling test on Thursday There will be a Topic project to complete, we are still planning this at the moment. Please make comments in reading diary, they are checked regularly.

Trips and Experiences We try to link trips to topics and have at least one trip or experience per term. We try to keep cost to a minimum however if you are experiencing difficulties please come and speak to us. We would rather find a solution than any child miss out.
