Imaging:
Utilized light microscopy at 20X magnification
To mount particles, 0.25g of bismuth telluride powder was suspended in 30 mL of ethylene glycol and spin coated onto glass slides
Program:
FIJI software was used to process each image to prepare them for analysis
Images were converted to 8-bit greyscale, contrast was enhanced, and a mask was applied to invert the look up table and produce a black and white image
Particles were first analyzed for area, perimeter, Feret’s diameter, and convex hull perimeter
To obtain convex hull perimeter, the plugin “Shape Filter” was installed
In order to restrict the number of particles analyzed, an area threshold of 30 um was applied
Analysis:
MATLab software was used to graph and interpret the data gathered through FIJI
