2 Preparation Practice. Have note cards, if necessary.
Know your content. Anticipate your audience. What do they know? What do you need to tell them? How can you engage them?

3 Voice Speak loudly. Speak clearly.
Use inflection – get excited! Ask questions? Avoid the umms, uhhs, and other fillers – they distract from your message.

4 Posture Stand up tall. Move around purposefully.
Use hand motions/gestures sparingly and for emphasis. Do not lean on a podium, sit on a chair, or slouch against the back wall (unless, of course, it ties in thematically).

5 Engaging with your audience
Ask questions Rhetorical or otherwise. Make them laugh Tell jokes appropriately and sparingly. Shock them Statistics, images, stories that will grab their attention. Move them Share personal anecdotes or stories of others with emotional content.

6 Calming Strategies Nervous? Breathe. Practice.
You’re not alone. The average person ranks the fear of public speaking higher than the fear of death. Public speaking is the number one phobia. Glossophobia Breathe. Practice. Find a focal point and speak to it. It could be a spot on the wall, a friend, or another object in the room.
