2 What is a reservist? A reservist is a member of the reserve force of the Canadian forces.

3 What is reservist leave?
Reservist leave is unpaid, job protected leave for employees who are Canadian forces military reservists and who are deployed to an international operation overseas or certain operations within Canada

4 Job protection Since June 2012, the federal government, all ten provincial governments, and all three territories have passed job protection legislation for people leaving work to join or help out the military

5 What happens when I leave for military service?
To minimize the disadvantages of leaving for military service, there is a federal law that provides for; Reemployment rights, as well as health insurance protection.

6 Do I get paid to help in the military?
All reservists leave is without pay, although employers may decide to provide top up pay to reservists who are leaving for military service.

7 Do I have to give notice to take reservist leave?
You must provide your employer with reasonable written notice before beginning the leave. If you must begin the leave before you are able to give the employer any notice, you will be required to tell your employer as soon as possible after beginning the leave. Employees are also required to provide reasonable written notice of the day on which they plan on returning from the leave.

8 When would I be entitled?
A military reservist is entitled to take reservist leave if they are deployed to either and international operation or certain operations in Canada. You are entitled to leave for the period necessary to engage in the operation.

9 What are my rights during reservist leave?
Although reservist leave days are unpaid, employees are entitled to continue to earn seniority, continue to earn credit for length of service and length of employment, be reinstated to the same position if it still exists or to a comparable position if it does not.

10 What types of support are available for families
The transition from military to civilian life affects the entire family, which is why our services and benefits were designed with the entire family in mind, after all it is not just the veteran who is impacted by the injury.
