3 Help Me To Know You More Jesus
By Pastor Fee Soliven Matthew 16:13-17 Sunday Morning December 18th, 2016

4 Matthew 16:13-18 13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" 14 So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

5     17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

6  Who is Jesus?

7 “But who do you say that I am?”

8 “You are the Christ”

9 What difference does it make who Jesus is?

10 1. It will Mold our Character

11 Romans 12:1-2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

12 2. It will Impact our Beliefs

13   Philippians 4:8-9 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

14 3. It will Influence our Lifestyles

15 2 Corinthians 5:17 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away.” 37

16 3. It will determine our Eternal Destiny

17 Philippians 3:12-14 12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

18 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

19 How would you describe Jesus?

20 1. His Beginnings

21 “Let Us make man in Our image”
Genesis 1:26 “Let Us make man in Our image”

22 2. His Names

23 King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace, Savior, Emmanuel, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God

24   3. His Attributes

25 1. Jesus is Deity

26 Omnipotent: He’s All Powerful
Omniscient: He’s All Knowing Omnipresent: He Fills All Space

27 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

28 3. Jesus was a Man of love

29 Jude 20-22 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

30 1 John 4:16 “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”

31 How did Jesus Describe Himself?

32 1. The Good Shepherd

33 John 10:11-14 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep

34 2. The Bread of Life

35 John 6:35-36 35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.

36 3. The Vine

37 John 15:4-5 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

38 4. The Way, the Truth, and the Life

39 John 14:1-6 1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

40 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know
4 And where I go you know, and the way you know." 5 Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

41 Jesus led an extraordinary life

42 Mark 10:46-52 46 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

43 48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, "Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you." 50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.

44  51 So Jesus answered and said to him, "What do you want Me to do for you?" The blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, that I may receive my sight." 52 Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

45 What was Jesus’ mission?

46 1. He came to reveal the Father.

47 2. His primary purpose was to die on the cross, giving His life as a payment for our sins.

48 3. He also came to be resurrected
  3. He also came to be resurrected. Christians serve a living God, not one who is still in the grave.

49 4. He came to teach truth, build His church, and assure us that we too will have life after death.

50 5. Today He sits at the Father’s right hand interceding for us.
