What Is Personal Grooming?
INTRODUCTION What Is Personal Grooming? Personal grooming (also called preening) is the art of cleaning, grooming, and maintaining parts of the body. It is the process of making yourself look neat and attractive. The things which you do to make yourself and appearance tidy and pleasant.

INTRODUCTION Research on grooming indicated that within 7 seconds of people meeting you, they would have formed a lasting impression about you. YOU NEVER HAVE A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION

Grooming involves all the aspects of your body: Overall Cleanliness Hair. Nails. Teeth. Uniform/attire. Make-up. Shoes. Jewellery. Cologne.

COMMON MISTAKES Chewing gum during a meeting with a client. Wearing of heavy Perfume or Cologne. Smoking or Drinking alcohol before a meeting with client. MEN WOMEN A striped shirt with a striped tie Lingerie-style blouses under suits Loafers with suit Mule shoes Shoes without socks Ponytails Loud, flashy clothes Gaudy or flashy jewelry Trousers that don’t fit at the waist. Short skirts

TIPS Overall Cleanliness Hair MEN
Your hair should not touch the back of your collar. Your facial hair should be neat. Moustache should be trimmed. Sideburns, beards are not recommended.

WOMEN Tie your hair in a neat hairstyle with hair pulled back from face. Hair if longer than jaw line should be tied into a bun. Should be well groomed with neat appearance at all times. Hair holding devices should be plain and of natural colours. Hair colour should not be more than one or two shades darker or lighter than your natural hair colour.

TIPS Nails Teeth Clip nails short, along their shape.
A healthy body ensures healthy nails. Brittle or discoloured nails show up deficiencies or disease conditions. Teeth Brush teeth twice a day and rinse well after every meal.

TIPS Uniform/attire Your attire talks a lot about your organization.
A neat clean and well ironed attire is acceptable and appreciated by one and all at all times. MEN White shirt and tie; (striped shirt goes with a plain colored tie). Wear Pants that fit at the waist. When choosing a suit go in for a dark colored suit.

Think of business formal attire as what you would wear to an interview; what you would wear when you are giving an important presentation to the CEO, or going to court. Those attires are the most formal attire a Junior Leader can wear. It is best to choose a wool blend or cotton-blend skirt to minimize wrinkling.

Appropriate blouses should have sleeves and should not be sheer. A sleeveless blouse should come with a cardigan or blazer. Work dresses should not be too tight, too short (no shorter than the tips of your fingers from your knee), or overly revealing in general. Dark colored jackets with matching skirt or slacks.

TIPS Jewellery Jewellery when tastefully worn is always an asset to your outfit. Do not wear Gaudy or flashy jewellery. Wear formal but simple watch. Minimum amount jewellery. Be cautious of wearing dangling earrings unless they are small. Do not wear multiple earrings. Leave the nose rings, eyebrow rings, lip ring and other piercing at home.
