Suggestions for an Eco-Friendly School
By Robin Broekhuizen and Emily Fedor
2
What we do well Recycle Often have lights turned off
Shut down smart boards and computers Use partly hydro-electric energy
3
Number of lights in the classrooms alone
There are 233 lights in the classrooms (not including Mrs. Reed's and Frau Keller’s rooms) We counted classrooms alone – this means not including printer rooms, offices, lunch room, nurse ‘s room, bathrooms, halls, storage, theater, corridors, kitchen, staff room, tech help room, administration, cleaning etc. These lights are all long, and most are not necessary.
4
SMARTboards Many teachers: don’t even use theirs much
leave theirs on when they’re not in the classroom actually use whiteboards instead because of personal preference. Smartboards: Cost approximately 21,000 CHF each!
5
Tablets Cabinets The chargers are always plugged in, even though people often don’t use them People put their tablets in their normal lockers when they aren’t using them
6
What can we do to improve?
Have about 1 long lamp in each classroom and take out certain other lights Use left over lamps for replacements when a lamp is broken Get rid of little-used SMARTboards in classes No cabinets, and instead larger/more lockers If we keep the cabinets, remove chargers from wall unless being used
