8. Hot Oil turkey fryers are so risky that Underwriters Laboratories refuses to certify them with the “UL Approved” mark.

10. But … Deep frying sure is fast, and fried turkey sure is mighty tasty.
(3 minutes per pound … 10 Lbs. turkey = 30 minutes)
and fried turkey sure is mighty tasty.
So …
As long as you understand and manage the risks there is no reason not to enjoy a deep fried turkey on Thanksgiving.

Cooking Oil is flammable
If you overflow the pot, the burner will ignite the oil Or, if you simply overheat it, it will ignite
Heated cooking oil reacts violently
(think flaming oil volcano) with water (or ice)

Make sure the turkey is thawed and dry before cooking

(READ the instructions) to avoid overfilling (and the fire that will follow).

If you notice the oil is smoking, turn the fryer off.
Shortly after it starts smoking, the oil ignites

Once the turkey is submerged, turn the burner on.

it’s nothing to be scared of.

40. A one time overdose of Turkey and Dressing, and Pie (with Ice Cream) isn’t going to kill you.
