1. Emergency Procedures
All Information Contained in this presentation is found in the FSD1 School Emergency Procedures Manual with the exception of school specific information.

2. CODE RED An announcement will be made to indicate.
Lock Classroom Doors
Move students away from doors and windows (sit on the floor if possible)
Those who are outside should make a decision based on circumstances.
When “Code Red” has been indicated, teachers are to advise student to remain calm so that further instructions will not be missed. In addition, a teacher should review the evacuation plan.
NO STUDENT IS TO LEAVE CLASSROOM UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL.

3. Code Blue
Automatically alerts the Police that an intruder is in the building when initiated
Has a Blue strobe in the hallways for this alert.
Follow Code Red (lockdown) procedures.

4. CODE YELLOW An announcement will be made to indicate.
Permission from the office may be obtained for a student to leave the classroom, but is strongly discouraged.
Do not open the door to anyone. Personnel who need to enter will have a key.
Report any suspicious activity to the front office if the intercom is available.

5. CODE GREEN
An announcement will be made to indicate.
THE “ALL CLEAR”

6. CODE WHITE Used for a Bomb Threat
Cellular phones and radios must not be used during a “code white” situation.
Once the building is safe to evacuate, the fire alarm will sound and students are to carry their belongings with them.
Report to the same designated area as the fire protocol upon evacuation (unless notified otherwise).

7. Teachers Protocol for Missing Students during “Codes”
Make sure you have a “paper copy” of the current student roster on hand.
If a “code” is called and students are missing from your class, place the yellow cardboard over the door window so that it can be seen by those passing by classroom.
If all students are present, do not put cards out.

8. FIRE
Students should walk to their designated areas according to the Classroom’s Evacuation Plan and line up behind cones.
Teachers should carry a class roster and their emergency cards with them.
Occupancy of the building will occur after clearance from authorized personnel.
Students should be aware of the evacuation routes for individual classroom.
Evacuation routes should be posted in your classroom beside the door.

Emergency Cards - Carried with you anytime you leave your room. (Example: During a fire you report to your designated location and take attendance. You discover that you have a student who is injured with a possible broken bone. You would hold up a RED card that indicates you have a student missing.)
RED: Need assistance immediately
YELLOW: Students unaccounted for
GREEN: All Students accounted for

11. TORNADO
Students are to line up along the walls of the hallway or along the walls of an interior classroom in the kneeling position facing the wall with their hands or a book protecting their heads. 
Please make  certain that student are quiet and orderly so that additional information may be given if necessary.

Clear students from the hall immediately and have them report to the nearest classroom.
Close and lock all windows and doors.
Move students away from windows and doors, preferably against an interior wall.
Account for all students.
Turn off all lights.
Use red and green cards to communicate with emergency responders; cards should be placed over door window.
Green – everything is safe in the classroom
Red - emergency assistance needed ASAP
No card – assumption will be made that an
intruder is in the classroom
In the event the intruder takes hostages, use a code word to communicate. For example, state “everything is fine here, we are code 300”, code 300 meaning hostages have been taken.
In the event the intruder begins shooting in your classroom, instruct the students to leave the classroom. Further instructions should be given to leave the building or run to another location.
