The ‘Mathematics’ lesson at Kingsholm
In Year 3 to Year 6 we teach Mathematics for one hour from 11 – 12. For the first 15 minutes we practise key arithmetic skills (mental and written). We call this Ready Steady Maths. For the next 45 minutes we teach age related objectives in short blocks that could last a couple of weeks. Do it – Apply it – Solve it Home Learning – Maths in context, multiplication facts and mathletics.
4
If a child has struggled to meet the objective during the morning session they are given the opportunity to receive additional support in the afternoon. (20 minutes) If a child is not ready to move on to the next calculation method they will complete work at the level they need.
