1 Healthy eating success stories
Good morning. Thank you all for joining me today. Today I’ll be talking about a critical issue facing our state and country. It’s one that’s important to me personally and professionally. At Blue Cross, we’ve been on a journey to create healthier communities for a number of years. Doing so is core to our nonprofit mission and an important part of who we are as a business. On this journey we’ve come to realize is that if we don’t address the deep health disparities facing our state – both through our community investments and through how we do business – our efforts won’t have the impact we ultimately desire. Along the way we’ve seen some significant accomplishments, and are also learning from our mistakes. I’ll talk more about that later. But before I dive in, you may be wondering, why a white executive is here addressing the issue of health equity and health disparities. It’s true that part of the reason is due to my role at Blue Cross, where I lead our Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility division. But the issue is also one that’s important to be me personally. <Talk a bit about this.>

2 Funding opportunities
We are seeking to fund seven organizations at $10,000 each, to showcase innovative, successful healthy eating work. This funding will be used to highlight successful programs that can be recognized in other communities and inspire similar work

3 What do we mean? Many successful and innovative projects address barriers to healthy eating There are often fewer resources available to promote these successes This funding aims to highlight the outcomes and lessons of current or completed healthy eating programs, and to promote them within communities The funding can be used for existing staff or a contractor to help tell the story
