10 WHAT’S CHANGED WITH DYNAMICS 365
DEPRECATED Application Integration Framework .NET Business Connector (AxBC) INTRODUCED Data Entity Based Integration Framework EXPANDED the DIXF

11 DATA ENTITY TYPES IN DYNAMICS 365
DATA ENTITIES = Views of a Single or Several Tables in Dynamics 365 that Support CRUD Operations (can be used via OData and DIXF) EXTENDED ENTITIES (Supports AX Customizations – Table Extensions – supports OData and DIXF) COMPOSITE ENTITIES (Asynchronous Multiple Related Entities – DIXF only) AGGREGATE ENTITIES – Read Only for use with BI and Reporting Systems (OData accessible) DMS uses Data Entities and Extended Entities for integration. Extended Entities support customizations – new tables and new fields. Best practices is to NOT modify or overlay Entities but rather extend them using Extended Entities Aggregate entity is for Power BI and other reporting solutions Composite is for bulk loading of data but without usable validation for ongoing transaction style integrations – good for loading product master data as an example We do not modify core D3FO.  We perform all CRUD operations via REST/ODATA utilizing standard entities and when necessary may utilize EDI specific entities that we have created for CRUD.  We deploy our EDI entities via a Model File that they will incorporate into their environment as an extension. Other than the entities we have no footprint in D3F0 either as an extension or overlay.

12 NET RESULT? RESTful Web Services - Superior to SOAP
OAuth is More Secure JSON is More Efficient (compact) than XML Accessing AX Business Objects is Easier OData Provides Timely Feedback and Flexibility Performance is Strong Advantages of OData web services vs SOAP We avoided SOAP because it is brittle – breaks if the AX 2012 schema is changed without regenerating the web service.
