Just a few reasons: Analyze if the core/facility is viable and worthwhile? SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Set objectives for core and staff Explain and share strategy and business game plan Plan for future needs and capital required Make sure everyone is on same page (university, department, resource planning, users, core facility) Outline budget needs in future years Outline parameters/regulations within your core

Objectives/mission of core Keys to success Stakeholder information (MOUs/LOOs/start-ups) Organizational Structure/Performance Management (scorecards, user groups, annual reviews, advisory boards) Facilities/equipment/assets Services Facilities/equipment/assets Capacity Pricing/Cost Analysis Outline parameters/regulations within your core regulates (SLA/SOP) OMB, CCSG, CCTS, OSU, etc Set expectation for core and users Budget/Financial considerations Usage – forecasts, trends Marketing Plan Who are target customers? Current customers? Future customers? Staff Development Plan Goals SWOT – Can this service be offered elsewhere for cheaper? Is so, why here? Conclusion EVERY COMPONENT THAT PLAYS A PART IN THE OPERATIONS OR SUCCESS OF THE CORE NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED IN THE PLAN
