3. New School of Architecture and Design
INTRODUCTION
The AIA California Council’s purpose is to “give unified representation in all statewide matters affecting the architectural profession within the State of California.”. Located in Sacramento close to the State Capitol, the AIACC’s primary mission is to advocate on behalf of architects and the architectural profession to the Legislature and state regulatory boards and agencies.
Mission Statement: The American Institute of Architects California Council, in collaboration with local components, is the voice of the profession.

4. HACKATHON
How can the AIACC help Architects influence the world around us?
Hackathon Definition: hackathon is a focused session where the group pools their skills to solve a problem.

5. Hackathon con’t:
Planning and preparing for change by working together to identify issues.
Guest Facilitator: Signo Uddenberg of MK Think.
Armed with post-its and sharp minds, the board worked together to identify issues as well as solutions in headline-style, for example:
Designing the world you want to live in
Architects Set the Stage
Building for Influence
Whose World is it, Anyway?
Rather than Breaking the Law, it’s Cracking the Code

8. LET’S TALK EDUCATION
Ingalill Wahlroos-Ritter, AIA from Woodbury University and Marvin Malecha, FAIA from NewSchool of Architecture gave insightful presentations and answered questions about the state of the path to licensure and the overall positive results and statistics about those pursuing an architectural degree.
The bottom line: Both schools are seeing significant and marked successes.

9. PRESIDENTIAL CITATIONS

Two presidential citations were given to honor these two men and what they have done for the profession in California.

10. SHARING The Chapter Scrapbook
Chapters were invited to create boards showing and highlighting various programs going on. As a way to enable components to share programs, tout their successes, and so that we can all learn from one another, a section of the room was transformed into a Scrabook! Here, all chapters posted what they felt was most important.

11. THE BOTTTOM LINE How’s the AIACC doing in 2017?
Focusing on these three areas:
INFLUENCE: serving as the members’ voice in government, fostering relationships and tracking legislation critical to successful practice
RESOURCES: developing tools to assist members in the delivery of architectural services – from alternative project delivery to insurance reform; from responding to onerous contract conditions to developing new procurement models; from member discount programs to client education tools
THE FUTURE: preparing the profession – at all career stages - to meet the changing marketplace and challenges of the environment
