Review Summary What does it mean to compare? Contrast? – ch 3-4

Required – write the definition and a properly written sentence Optional – if correct, you will be exempt from the next quiz

3 Vocabulary Scour(v) – to scrub something in order to clean it. She scoured the dirty pots and pans so she could cook dinner. Hierarchy(n) – a way of ranking group members based on their importance. The hierarchy of a school is: director, principal, asst. principal, and teachers. Integral(adj) – to be absolute necessary for something to work. The hard drive is an integral part of a computer.

4 Grammar 1 – simple, 2 – compound, 3 – complex, 4 – compound/complex, 5 – runon My daughter and I spoke last night she was feeding her daughter. Because I enjoy annoying students, I give them lots of homework, and I laugh at them.

Basic plot – What did the movie delete, add, change? Passage of time – Does the movie show the same passage of time? Does it go faster? Slower? What feelings did you have during particular scenes? Same or different in the movie?

9 What can I compare and contrast?
How did the author create Mood, Suspense? Humor? Dramatic Irony? How does the movie create these same things? Any other ideas?

10 Freak the Mighty Review chapters 1-2 Read chapters 3-4
Begin watching the movie Keep track of similarities and differences between the book and the movie.

11 Wrap It Up What does it mean to compare? To contrast?
Homework: Three vocab words – Begin reading your book, summarize as you read, focus on the points given in class.
