2. Introduction information needed for future technical writing students
This instruction manual will provide the basic
information needed for future technical writing students
who require help inserting images, or ClipArt, into a
Word Document and will also include a tutorial with
illustrations, to make it easier to understand. All of the
information, such as materials required, theory of operation,
step-by-step instructions and a troubleshooting guide will be
presented to help each student complete this task. This
new tutorial is also quite effective and will easily guide all
students through a quick process which will, within a matter
of seconds, yield success. The goal is to make sure that
every student is able to learn these skills, use them, and
pass them along to the next set of students after them.

3. List of Materials Computer/ Laptop
Before beginning the task, please make sure that all of the following items have been acquired:
Computer/ Laptop
Microsoft Word 2013 or later version
Mouse/Keyboard (for desktop computers)
Charger (for laptops)
Internet Access

4. Theory of Operation
There are many uses and reasons to add a ClipArt into a word document. One of the primary purposes of ClipArt is to provide a visual explanation of the subject. The images provide a better explanation of many topics that would be much more difficult to explain without. In addition, ClipArt is used to design logos by people who do not have the advanced software for doing so, and also a ClipArt provides an artistic impression of a real object, person, or animal. The main reason behind the artistic design is due to the realization that a person may not have an actual “real world” picture of the object they would like to use.

5. Step-by-Step Instructions
Here are the steps for inserting a ClipArt Image into a Word Document.
Please keep in mind that these steps are intended for Microsoft Word 2013 and later.
To Insert a ClipArt into a Blank Document
1.) Open Microsoft Word 2013 or any later version of Microsoft Word.
2.) Select Blank Document as shown in Figure 1.
Note: To insert a ClipArt into a Working
Document, select Open Other
Documents instead of Blank
Document as shown in Figure 1.

6. Step-by-Step Instructions
3.) Choose the Insert tab near the top of the window. 4.) Click on Online Pictures as shown in Figure 2. 5.) Type the search term inside of the search box and press Enter, or click the search button as shown in Figure 3. Note: For this example the search term “OWL” was use

7. Step-by-Step Instructions
6.) Click the box of each image to be added to the Word Document and click Insert button.
Note: Please be advised, that image search can be limited to ClipArt only, or to allow all images from a Bing search to be shown by using the drop down arrow in the search box and selecting either CC ONLY or All Images as shown in Figure 4.
Note: More time may be necessary to download larger image.

8. Troubleshooting
There may be some errors when attempting to insert a ClipArt image into a Word Document, such as visual errors that renders anyone unable to see the image that was just inserted, and while every case is unique, there are a few methods that can be used to try and correct common errors 1.)Click File in the top left corner. 2.)Click Options. 3.)Click the Advanced tab. 4.)Scroll down to the Show Document Content section 5.)Make sure that Show Drawings and Text Boxes on Screen box is checked. 6.)Click OK to save settings. Should this not solve the problem, another solution would be to press the F1 key. Doing this will bring up a help box that allows anyone to search the entire Microsoft Database for a solution. If an extremely rare case occurs, where the problem is still unsolved, then contacting Microsoft directly at will be the best solution and should yield the desired results.
