Who is in it? Quinceañera
Her court or “corte” who accompanies her during the ceremony (ceremonia) and recepción and are chosen from close friends and family 7 damas 7 chamberlanes

La quinceañera wears (lleva) a beautiful light pink or white dress (vestido). She is given a place of honor at the front of the church (iglesia)
7
Misa (mass) -The misa is the focal point of the Quinceañera
-Kneeling pillow for the ceremonia with her name -Pass out bolos (favors) to guests
8
The Misa is a celebration of the young woman’s passage from girlhood to womanhood. The priest (padre) talks about her new responsibilities as an adult in her Church, family and community.
9
Sometimes, during the misa, the mother of the Quinceañera may place a tiara upon her daughter’s head, the father changes her flat shoes to high heels (zapatos de tacón alto) and the Quinceañera gives her youngest sister her porcelain doll (muñeca). Sometimes the doll is used as her bouquet.

This is a very special day for the girl and her family
This is a very special day for the girl and her family. The ceremony at Church is very important. So after the ceremony at the Church, what happens? LA FIESTA
11
Here are some of the things that could happen at the party for the Birthday Girl:
During the entrada, the honor court is introduced to the guests as they enter the party. Then, la quinceañera and her escort are introduced. The first dance is a waltz (vals) danced with the Quinceañera and her father .The Court of Honor joins the dance.
12
During the party, the Quinceañera takes turns dancing with the male guests. After this first waltz, the toast (brindis) is given and the cake (pastel) is cut. Then, the meal is served and the party continues! The cake is grande and multilayered. Usually with pink and white icing and flowers.

Different Countries Puerto Rico- priest will bless the zapatos de tacon before she wears them. Also have the highest quality Nicaragua- the pastel is the main show- needs to be as alto as possible, and with many tiers, fountains, lights, flowers and bridges the family can afford Argentina- no misa en la iglesia. The focus is on the recepcion. Light 15 candles (velas) on a special candelabra
15
More countries! Peru- everyone dresses elegantly. 15 couples wait at the bottom of the stairs for her grand entrada El Salvador- called “Fiestas Rosas” because traditional color of the dress is pink. 3 phases of ceremony- 1- separation from family 2-transitional state 3- integration into womanhood

she is the princesa for the day.
REMEMBER… Whatever the family’s budget is, a Quinceañera should be a very special day. Whether she has a backyard BBQ and plays CD’s or has a large banquet at a function hall the most important part is the celebration. Whether she wears a designer dress or one borrowed from a friend, she is the princesa for the day.
