Riddles can be short. Do you remember these riddles?
I’m soft like a pillow and sweet like honey. Children love to eat me. You can find me in an ice cream and in a hot chocolate drink. What am I? I’m hard like a rock. I’m also smooth like glass, but not when it’s hot. I help you keep cool. You’ll find me in your drink on a hot sunny day. What am I?
8
Riddles can be in the form of a poem as in this example.
9
Notice the verses. So in this riddle, I means Danny and not the thing he is describing. And the rhyming words. This poem has a writer.
10
This means very excited.
Notice the descriptive language too. This means very happy. This is a simile.

I jumped for joy when I received this toy, It’s suitable for a girl or a boy. It’s small enough to fit in my pocket, When I started playing, I just couldn’t stop it. On the MTR as I go to school, It’s the games I love, and my friends think it’s cool, My mum thinks I’m silly because I play a lot, She says, ‘It’s a waste of time’, but I think it’s not. It teaches me to solve problems and think carefully, I have exams coming up, so we shall see! Just read this riddle again and study this rhyme. Do you know what it is? Do you need more time? By David

Let’s look at some of the language.
This is another way, like over the moon, to mean very happy. By David Here cool doesn’t mean quite cold. It is an informal way of saying something is attractive or good.
