3. Common Core State Standards
To ensure that all students are ready for success after high school, the Common Core State Standards establish clear, consistent guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do in math and English language arts from kindergarten through 12th grade.

4. Mathematics There are two important areas of focus:
learning numbers and what numbers represent
addition and subtraction.

5. Mathematics Expand Mathematical Thinking Through Exploration
Number Sense- comparing and order

Sorting, Classifying, Counting and Data

Hands-on Exploration- Math Centers
Integrating literacy which reinforce math concepts

Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing
Name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.

Naming and writing upper- and lowercase letters
Matching letters to sounds and using other methods to figure out unfamiliar words when reading and writing
