Problems addressed by the action
Ongoing degradation of the natural forest areas. Poor natural resources management Weak approaches climate change sensitive approaches Undervalued sustainable agriculture approaches

Objectives To improve the resilience of Sri Lanka’s dry land farmers to effects of land degradation and climate change To enhance sustainable agriculture, natural resource management and income security of dry land farming communities in Sri Lanka

Expected outcomes Income diversification and strengthening of income streams Enhanced crop management Water collecting small tanks – rainwater collection & aquaculture A2E – Access to Agriculture Extension program Enhanced village level market orientation Community woodlots for alternative firewood production Strengthened local seed saving mechanisms Restoration of degraded forest ecosystems

Community partnerships-CBO’s
Ongoing Progress Community partnerships-CBO’s Community level project partners selected in all GN’s- from local farmer organizations and rural development societies MOU’s finalized – nine CBO/ RDS from selected villages Community Extension Trainee – selected through the CBO To function as a community level knowledge disseminator in each GN To monitor and provide sustainability technologies to the village
