List all schools where you attended
List schools where you are known
Edit your school information if needed
Do NOT list prior field placements

7. Eligibility Sheet Eligibility sheet for YOUR major
SPED: Most is completed in the SPED Dept.
Dbl Majors: fill out appropriate forms; get signatures from both major advisors
Transfer students: make sure credits have transferred
Get this signed prior to due date (see who needs to sign: advisor, dept. rep, content advisor, TDEV education advisor, etc.)

8. Eligibility Apply to major
Apply to Teacher Education (Dean’s Office EB A 110)
GPA 2.75 requirement
APPLY to Student Teach ON TIME, EVEN IF YOU MAY HAVE ELIGIBILITY ISSUES!
GPA, not admitted to teacher education yet, etc.

9. CFS & Secondary…
Set an advising meeting NOW to meet and get signature(s) on your eligibility sheet!
Make sure that your advisor reads your eligibility sheet carefully before signing
DO NOT wait!

10. Eligibility Deadlines…
El Ed:
Oct 15th/Feb 15th semester prior to ST: Completion of all Incompletes and Appeals, and removal of all grades below C in required major courses (In Elem Handbook)
Secondary Ed:
Oct 15th/Feb 15th semester prior to ST: Completion of all Incompletes and Appeals, and removal of all grades below C- in required major courses (In Handbook)
SPED: Apply to SPED Dept. + meet OCE Deadlines
CFS: OCE Deadlines

11. Other Requirements SPED Teacher Candidates:

17. Essay Proof this document for conventions of English and tone
Read your essay out loud…get a friend to read it…be professional!
El Ed: if strong preference for K-3 or 4-6, state on application in special request field, not in essay
CFS: OCE will generally request 2nd/3rd grade, but could be K or 1st

At this time we would not be able to place Xxxxx Xxxxx. Her resume and paperwork do not meet our expectations for student teachers.

19. Feedback from School Principal after declining a teacher candidate for student teaching
Thanks for the and the voic . You know I take the placement of student teachers into our classrooms and in front of our kids very seriously. She may very well be a good candidate, but I have to make a decision based on very little information. In the essay she submitted with her resume, she wrote extensively about how she's always known she would do 1 of 3 things with her life. She goes on to give reasons why the others won't work, so she then decided to pick teaching. While this may be true for some in education, it doesn't present as someone who is passionate about entering the education field or what we expect of those coming into our classrooms.

Criminal Background Check (CBC) required for most districts: OCE will include this information with your placement contract
COMPLETE CBC ASAP! Do Not Wait!

Jobs: Work, athletics, can NOT interfere with your student teaching hours and demands!

23. Double Majors:
Most Double Majors will ST over 1.5 semesters. Keep this in mind and plan for this.
There are some exceptions. Discuss your requirements with your advisors and with OCE.

24. Student Athletes
You MUST meet with OCE staff to discuss practice and event/game schedules, PRIOR to OCE making a placement for you.
Meet with OCE one semester ahead so we can plan for you!

Goal: placement within one hour drive of where you live
Goal: Diverse placement opportunities within all field and student teaching
BOT: Exp. must be across scope of license
OCE will place you in a location where you are not known…
You will not be placed in schools where you have family/friends working, your children attend school

Applications received in OCE database
You update as needed, until Jan.15, address where living, credentials, special requests
OCE reviews essays and resumes and sends them back for editing (don’t make us do that!)
OCE sends requests out to schools
CHECK YOUR HUSKYNET…we may have Q’s
OCE secures placement
Hold placement meetings with you during finals week: watch for posted signs!
You will sign a contract
