Objectives: The Science for the Carpathians (S4C) initiative is a regional science network targeting at mountain research in the Carpathians. The side-event will provide first-hand information on the recent efforts of S4C to develop and foster research coordination and collaboration.

How to achieve these aims?
Since its launch, the S4C initiative persued these objectives with two main activities:
Strategic planning and Forum Carpaticum
Important means: Active and committed scientists! (e.g. working groups = SSC members)
Structure: Steering Committee of xx members.

Focus on defining the state of the arts, i.e. where we are and from what we can take stock?

To narrow down the discussion, we like to focus on the Research Agenda and discuss possible steps towards effective implementation, which includes 1) Establishing conducive frame conditions („Setting the stage“); 2) Funding; and 3) Communication.
