There are many different landforms on the seven continents.

Continents The seven large pieces of land that make up earth.

Ocean A body of salt water that covers 75% of the Earth’s surface.

Mountains Land masses that rise above the surrounding land.
Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth.

Hills Rounded raised land that was once a mountain.

Desert Dry barren land receiving less than 10 inches of rain annually.

Plateau A high flat area of land with steep sides.

Canyon A deep valley with steep sides
The Grand Canyon is located in Northwestern Arizona.

Island Areas of land surrounded on all sides by water.

Peninsula A peninsulas are connected to a mainland and are nearly surrounded by water. The state of Florida is pictured above.

Glaciers Glaciers are gigantic rivers of snow and ice.

Valley A low area of land between hills or mountains

Coastline The boundary between the land and an ocean or lake
