9 Message to Damascus and
Jerusalem

10 3 Look! The Lord is coming!     He leaves His throne in heaven     and tramples the heights of the earth.

11 5 And why is this happening? Because of the rebellion of Israel yes,
the sins of the whole nation.

12 Who is to blame for Israel’s rebellion? Samaria, its capital city!

13 Where is the center of idolatry in Judah? In Jerusalem, its capital!

14 Micah points to a “government under God.” That is God’s philosophy
It is not the form of government that is wrong; it is the people who lead it who are wrong. Micah points to a “government under God.” That is God’s philosophy of government. Various

19 The sins which Micah will denounce in Chapter 2 are sins against one another, sins against mankind, while in the first chapter their sins were in their relationship with God.

20 When a person is not right with God, (s)he cannot be right with his/her fellow man. And when (s)he is right with God, (s)he can be right with his/her fellow man. J.V. McGee

21 Message to Damascus and
Jerusalem Message Addressing Specific Sins

22 You rise at dawn and hurry simply because you have the power to do so.
1What sorrow awaits you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. You rise at dawn and hurry to carry them out, simply because you have the power to do so.

23 3 But this is what the Lord says:
“I will reward your evil with evil; you won’t be able to pull your neck out of the noose. You will no longer walk around proudly,     for it will be a terrible time.”

24 5 Others will set your boundaries then,     and the Lord’s people will have no say     in how the land is divided.

25 12 “Someday, O Israel, I will gather you;     I will gather the remnant who are left. I will bring you together again like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture. Yes, your land will again be filled with noisy crowds!

26 13 Your Leader [the Breaker] will break out and lead you out of exile, out through the gates of the enemy cities, back to your own land. Your King will lead you;     the Lord himself will guide you.”

27 Message to Damascus and Jerusalem Message Addressing Specific Sins
Message Denouncing Leaders

28 1I [Micah] said, “Listen, you leaders of Israel
1I [Micah] said, “Listen, you leaders of Israel!     You are supposed to know right from wrong, 2 but you are the very ones who hate good and love evil.

29 5 This is what the Lord says:     “You false prophets are leading my people astray! You promise peace for those who give you food, but you declare war on those who refuse to feed you.

30 The sun will set for you prophets, and your day will come to an end
The sun will set for you prophets, and your day will come to an end. 7 Then you seers will be put to shame, and you fortune-tellers will be disgraced. And you will cover your faces     because there is no answer from God.”

31 Israel’s sin and rebellion.
8 But as for me, I am filled with power—     with the Spirit of the Lord. I am filled with justice and strength to boldly declare Israel’s sin and rebellion.

32 9 Listen to me, you leaders of Israel
9 Listen to me, you leaders of Israel!     You hate justice and twist all that is right. 10 You are building Jerusalem     on a foundation of murder and corruption.

33 12 Because of you, Mount Zion will be ploughed like an open field; Jerusalem will be reduced to ruins! A thicket will grow on the heights     where the Temple now stands..

34 Timeline of Old Testament Prophets

35 Jeremiah knew of Micah‛s message: He told the people of Judah,
17 Then some of the wise old men stood and spoke to all the people assembled there. 18 They said, “Remember when Micah of Moresheth prophesied during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah. He told the people of Judah,

36 12 Because of you, Mount Zion will be ploughed like an open field; Jerusalem will be reduced to ruins! A thicket will grow on the heights     where the Temple now stands..

37 19 But did King Hezekiah and the people kill him for saying this
19 But did King Hezekiah and the people kill him for saying this? No, they turned from their sins and worshipped the Lord. They begged Him for mercy. Then the Lord changed His mind about the terrible disaster He had pronounced against them. So we are about to do ourselves great harm.”,

38 Micah presents three pictures.
What Next? Micah presents three pictures. Ch. 1-3 – Lack of Godliness

39 What Next? God takes sin seriously.
We do well to take the Apostles Paul’s and John’s advice and examine ourselves, repenting when necessary.

40 5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves.
1 Corinthians 13:5

41 But if we confess our sins to Him,
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9

42 What Next? God keeps all of His promises – both good and bad.
Scripture and history testify to this. Take hope, commit to expectantly relying on all His promises.

43 What Next? 19 God is not a man, so He does not lie.     He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act?     Has He ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23:19

44 42 And He ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead.

45 43 He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in Him will have their sins forgiven through His name.” Acts 10:42-43

46 to stand firm for Christ.
20For all of God‛s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for His glory. For it is God who enables us… to stand firm for Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:20
