“Space School Musical” Featured in Week-Long Adventure

2. NASA Adds STEAM to Girl Scout Camp
NASA Science’s “Space School Musical” was the focus of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!”, a Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, CA week-long day camp was held July 28 –
August 1, 2014.
Forty-seven girls in grades 1-4 attended the camp, which combined solar system learning with art activities, costume design and creation, dancing and singing - adding the A (arts) to STEM learning.
Shari Asplund joined the girls and led thoughtful discussions about the planets, NASA missions exploring them and the vast opportunities for girls in STEM fields. The scouts made Comets on a Stick after learning about asteroids, comets and meteorites.
With guidance from six 8-12th graders participating in a Program Aide Leadership Experience, the week of learning and laughing culminated with the girls putting on a fabulous performance of the entire play to a cheering audience of 100+ family and friends.
