The most common input device Must be proficient with keyboard Skill is called keyboarding

4 DEFINITON OF KEYBOARD Keyboard is an input device which resembles with a type writer like keys that enables us to enter data into a computer.

5 How keyboard works Keyboard controller detects a key press
Controller sends a code to the CPU Code represents the key pressed Controller notifies the operating system Operating system responds Controller repeats the letter if hel

6 Different types of Keyboard

7 Parts of Keyboard Keyboard consists of five parts: Alphabetical keys
Numeric keys Special purpose keys Arrow keys Function keys

8 Alphabetical Keys Alphabetic keys include letters from A-Z and punctuation marks such as ? , “ ‘ etc. The normal layout of the keyboard is QWERTY as the letters of the first row of the keyboard is QWERTY.

9 Special Purpose Keys Numeric Keys
Numeric keys include numbers from 0 - 9 Special Purpose Keys These are the following special purpose keys: Enter key Del & insert key Caps lock key Modifiers alt, ctrl, shift etc

10 Arrow Keys Cursor movement keys controls the movement of cursor on the screen such as right, left, top, bottom.

11 Function Keys A function key is a key on a keyboard which can be programmed so as to cause an operating system command interpreter or application program to perform certain actions. Function keys are numbered from F1 – F12. In many application programs F1 key is used to display help contents.
