New Deal Reforms that Endure By 1937 unemployment 14% industrial production returned to 1929 levels Congress wanted to scale back New Deal Rise in unemployment in 1938 Industrial production dropped in 1938 Never a third new deal-too much deficit spending Events in Europe became a concern

Supporters and Critics of the New Deal Conservatives argued FDR’s policies made the federal government too large and stifled free enterprise and individual initiative Liberals argued FDR’s policies did not go far enough to eliminate social and economic inequalities Supporters cite the balance FDR struck between laissez faire capitalism and overregulated socialism
