List and briefly describe important principles about how students learn and especially how students learn engineering List and briefly describe common methods used in education research Read and interpret education research articles to inform an engineering education Conduct informal or formal education research at your respective campuses

Part I - Day 1 (today): focus on frameworks Part II - Days 2-5: Follow the research process (1) explain and model a topic, and then (2) practice and assess your work with that topic.

The central focus is YOUR evolving research question and plan The sessions are designed to facilitate your learning, creativity, and a sense of community Interactive and makes use of our collective knowledge Reflective – time for solitary and group processing Tools for reflection and feedback Journals (private) Posters (public)

7 Communities for Practice (CoP)
What is a Community of Practice? Per Wenger et al., CoPs involve: A DOMAIN (body of knowledge) A COMMUNITY (relationships between people) A PRACTICE (shared frameworks about doing things)

Handouts and articles distributed during the workshop Online resources Reference books that may be checked out overnight Your thinking as documented in your journal and on your poster YOUR FELLOW PARTICIPANTS
