CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Color System: Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Purple Core Values: Integrity, Respect for Self and Others, Responsibility, Honesty, Citizenship, Courtesy RESPECT, Responsibility, Safety: everywhere, anywhere, anytime Choices and Consequences Zero Tolerance Policy for Bullying (harassment of any kind: verbal, emotional, physical) Time Efficiency

TEAM TEACHING What does it look like?
Rangel-Writing Iuliano-Social Studies Beydoun-Science What is expected of the students? Binders, folder/notebook assigned for each subject Tests/Study Guides Notes Responsibility/Independence Accountability

ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL 8:00 – Students eating breakfast
8:25 – Students who are not eating breakfast 8:35 – Teachers pick up students ***Late Start: 9:35am-3:35pm 8:45 – Students are late after this time, must be signed into office 3:35 – Dismissal: Main Door at CONES. Parents must be present to pick up students. (No pick up at classrooms) *PARKING/DRIVING at dismissal times At 3:45, all students who have not been picked up will be sent to the office If there is severe weather (too cold or rainy), students will be in the gym lined up at their cones.

SNACK Importance of Breakfast—we have a LONG morning! Lunch 12:40-1:10
AM snack Must be healthy Please do not send chips, candy, cakes/cupcakes for snack

4TH GRADE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Daily 5/CAFE – developing independence in literacy Building Stamina Common Core Math – fluency in math skills in concepts through workshops, small group instruction Math Skills – fluency in addition/subtraction, different methods of multiplication and division , problem solving skills/performance tasks Science/Social Studies – real world application and contexts Writing – developing writing process in narrative, informational, and opinion text structures Reading Levels – 40 (beginning of year) to 50 (end of year)

DISTRICT TESTING M-Step: Tentatively Spring 2017
DRA: Fall/Winter/Spring Common Assessments: Social Studies, Writing NWEA: Students tested 3x a year in 4 different subject areas. September/January/May: Math, Language, Reading, Science DATA Meetings: by class, rankings, moving forward How can I prepare my child on testing days?

HOMEWORK/PLANNERS Homework MUST be completed everyday
Homework MUST be done neatly or will be returned back to students NAME! Independently completed by student but overseen by parent/guardian Planners MUST be signed everyday to enable you to manage your child's daily responsibilities Planners are the best form of communication for parents/teachers Color *PLEASE ask to SEE your child’s homework

STUDY SKILLS/HABITS When your student has a test or quiz the next day they can… Read their notes then summarize Review their notes then question themselves or have someone question them Make index cards of key words/terms Watch a video on discoveryeducation.com, brainpop.com, or use the internet to gather more information Teacher blogs, school website, Dearborn Schools website

GRADES/REPORT CARDS Grades are represented by letters and numbers:
1 (exceeding) = 95 % and above 2 (meeting) = 80 – 94% 3 (progressing) = % 4 (concern) = 69 % and below Math Levels: NWEA Reading Levels: NWEA Students will have Study Guides/Notes before tests, will need to have tests signed by parents and returned to school - Honor Roll (% of 1’s and 2’s on report card AND in life skills)

PARENT INVOLVEMENT Structure and Routine
Same bedtime every night Same homework time everyday Create an environment at home where your child always knows what to do Designated Homework Environment Ask about homework/planner EVERYDAY 20-30 minutes of independent reading * TV time Encourage best work, positive attitude Enable their independence at home Attend parent meetings, extracurricular events PTA
