Strategic philosophy AFL NSW/ACT worked with a number of Sydney Independent Schools in 2013 to provide opportunities for students to participate in a trial school-based AFL competition. In 2013, six schools were involved across two age groups in the inaugural program. In 2014, AFL NSW/ACT welcome another four schools to the program which now boasts 10 schools, with 22 teams across three age groups. AFL NSW/ACT is committed to working with the Independent School sector as a key strategic focus, and will work with association requirements to ensure any program meets the needs of the schools and the association. AFL NSW/ACT will encourage local community clubs to embrace this competition and ensure that players represent their school in the first instance. “I would like to thank AFL NSW/ACT for the support and guidance they have given to the Riverview AFL program. Apart from the opportunity for our students to develop both individual and team based skills through participation on the field, I can confidently attest that the AFL program has also been in congruence with the values we promulgate at the College, those being the development of socially aware, well rounded young men. “ John Frare - Director of Co- Curriculum, St Ignatius College Mr Ray Paxton - Headmaster of Waverley College - with Swans stars Alex Johnson, Dane Rampe (Newington College), Daniel Robinson (St Ignatius College) and Gary Rohan
