2
Our journey We opened in September 2016 with 100 Year 7 students.
We currently have Years 7 and 8. We will grow to become a ten form entry school with students on roll, including a sixth form. Our permanent site will be situated in St.Mary’s.
3
What are our aims? High quality Teaching and Learning
Positive behaviour Aspiration for all To serve the Gascoigne community
4
Teaching and Learning We want to develop independent learners who can think for themselves. Our lessons are designed to be challenging and to make students think deeply. We want our lessons to prepare students for the real world. Teachers are passionate about their subject.
5
To challenge students’ thinking on a daily basis.
To create a culture in which students embrace and thrive upon challenge in the classroom. To design lessons that force students out of their comfort zone. For students to engage with and challenge each other as part of the learning process. To produce independent and resilient learners who aren’t afraid to make mistakes. For students to see feedback as an important part of learning and to use it to focus on the learning process not the outcome. To develop a Growth Mindset amongst the students. To allow the students the space and independence to have Eureka moments in lessons. For students to be able to link their learning to the real world.
7
Positive behaviour High expectations and clear routines.
Positive relationships between staff and students. Positive learning environment in lessons – low level disruption is not tolerated. We praise students for their progress and effort. Our children feel safe and happy in school.
8
Positive behaviour “The behaviour of the students observed - both in class and around the school – was impeccable.” “The school has solid foundations of behaviour, trust and good relationships” “All of the parents were vocal in support of the way the school look after their children……there was a strong atmosphere of trust established here. Two parents talked about how their children can’t wait to get to school in the morning, and all agreed that their children’s attitudes towards school had improved over this year.”
9
High aspirations We believe in the ability and potential of all our students – we want them to be successful. We want our students to believe in themselves and to pursue their dreams and ambitions. We want our students to have contact with different businesses and universities.
