Social Studies With Ms. Hall
6th Grade Weekly Newsletter Volume 6 Issue 5 October 6th, 2017 Sign up for important updates from the 6th Grade Team Science Weekly Review The students worked in groups and created a line graph for the data that they collected last week when they changed the length of the pendulums. After creating the graphs the students used the graphs to predict how many swings the pendulums would make at lengths that they had not yet tested. The students tested the different lengths and compared their predictions with the results. The students then created their own graphs with the data. They also completed a reading of What Scientists Do and answered questions about the reading. Science Next Week The students will use their graphs and data from the pendulum experiments to create a second timer. Students will test their pendulums and tell how they could make revisions if their pendulum didn’t work as planned. Social Studies With Ms. Hall This Week This week students began details of the eight major climate zones found in delving into the eight major climate zones of the Eastern Hemisphere. They were the amazed to learn that the Eastern Hemisphere. Polar Ice Caps are also known as Polar Deserts due to lack of precipitation. They thought all deserts had to be very high in temperature. Next Week The students will finish the zones and chose one they want to learn more about and teach this new information to the class. They will have a choice of their presentation style. Also, during social studies they will be working on several maps and graphs throughout the year. It is important that they have either colored pencils or crayons to complete their assignments. Markers are not used on maps. Thank you for helping to make this year a successful one.
