1 How good is your memory? Write down as many things as you can from the questions and answers at the beginning of the lesson! TWO MINS, GO!

2 Sending out the Twelve Mark 6:7-13
13th September 2010

3 STARTER: You are about to go on holiday for at least 1 week. Make a list of items you would take with you. 1. 2. 3.

4 Mark 6:7-13 Jesus summoned the twelve.
He gave them authority over the unclean spirits (demons). They went out in pairs to preach and heal. They should take nothing but a staff and sandals (and what they were wearing). No food, money or spare clothes. If you are not welcomed then leave and shake the dust from your feet. They cured many people and cast out demons.

5 The Meaning The disciples travel light
To show dependence on God. They should leave if people do not want to listen to them. Do not waste time, urgency. They must not beg (no bowl) Many preachers were false and dishonest. Jesus wanted the disciples to be different.

6 The Meaning Shake the dust off your feet.
Jews used to do this when they left a Gentile town. Jesus is saying that it does not matter who is in the town just that they listen (Jew and gentile alike)

7 How do you think the preparations of the Twelve compare to your list?
TASK: Imagine you are one of the twelve disciples (Choose a disciple we have learnt about already). Write a diary entry explaining what your day was like. Use the following questions to help you write your diary entry: What has Jesus told you to do on your journey? Why do you do what Jesus says? Did you take anything with you on your journey? Are you on your own? What type of people did you visit on your journey? Do you enjoy your job as a disciple of Jesus? Is it hard or easy? How do you feel at the end of the day?

8 Is there any group of people that live their lives similar to those of the disciples?
How are Christians lives today different from the lives of the disciples in Jesus time?

9 Discuss in your groups how you think Christians today should:
Preach the gospel Care for the sick Fight against evil

10 Use our class discussion to help you list at least four practical ways that Christians can act like disciples.
