Big Bang Balloon
2
Lab book Title of lab at top: Big Bang Balloon
Purpose: To model how galaxies move in the universe Variables: I.V.: The distance the dots are from the baseline D.V.: How much the dots move Controls: use string to measure, use cm to measure, be accurate in measuring Hypothesis: If 7 dots are placed at different distances from the baseline, and we measure the initial distance and final distance after blowing up the balloon, then ______________________________________, because ____________________________________________________________________________.

Set up your balloon Use a ruler to draw a black line at the base of the balloon Use a black marker to draw a line around the edge of the balloon, label each side (side 1 and side 2) Randomly place 1 dot of each color on each side of the balloon Draw a map on your data chart for the location of each dot.

Graph X- axis: label color of dot
Y-axis: label distance from baseline (cm) Draw a bar for the initial and final distance for each color dot.

Conclusion Write the question and answer
Which dots moved more, the dots closest to the baseline or the dots furthest from the baseline? Why? How does this lab model how galaxies move in the universe? (Hint look at your notes on Big Bang) How did this lab increase your understanding of the Big Bang Theory?
