The range of pressures and resistances used by subjects during inhalation, release of the initial voiceless plosive /p/ in “pop,” and during the vowel /u/ in “took,” The curved line is based on the equation Pt = Pa (Ruaw/(Ruaw+Rlaw)). Pt is expressed in terms of percent of Pa and Ruaw is expressed as a multiple of Rlaw.
