Objectives: Today we will… So that we can… Set up our Biology Binders
QQT about the Syllabus Prepare for Monday’s Eclipse! So that we can… Understand classroom expectations & routines. Describe the relative sizes and distances between the Moon, Earth and Sun. Model the process of a solar eclipse & contrast it to a lunar eclipse. Compare a total solar eclipse to a partial or annular eclipse & propose a scientific explanation for each. Use eclipse glasses to safely view the eclipse.

Bell Work: 1) Please take a “Unit 1 Overview” sheet. Please fill in the section called “Homework Accountability Log” like this: 2) Take out your biology binder (green if possible) and your signed syllabus. I will be around to give you stamps for them! 3)Tear off the signed Academic Honesty & Integrity Agreement. I will collect that.

Review your answers to yesterday’s exit ticket with your table group. Try to agree on the correct answers.

Stand Up-Hand Up-Pair Up!
A new routine. Explain: When I say go, everyone will stand up and put their hands in the air. Walk around with your hand in the air until you find another person who has their hand up WHO IS NOT IN YOUR TABLE GROUP. High five the first person you see who fits that criteria. That is your partner. Tell each other one activity that you plan to get involved in at PRA. As soon as you are finished talking, thank your partner, put your hand back up in the air and repeat until I say stop.

Quiz-Quiz-Trade! All of these questions are related to the syllabus – things like grading, classroom procedures, lab safety, etc. Remember, you have the answer on the back to check your thinking (or if you need a hint)!

Questions? Try to postpone deep questions about the grading system – these are easier to address once we take our first quiz and can start tracking our personal data.

Brainstorm: On Monday, all of PRA is going to go outside to view a rare event called a solar eclipse. What do you think you are going to see? What do you think is causing it? Use round robin or other strategy to give students opportunity to process/discuss/share.

Summarize: If time, you can play quiz-quiz-trade or other review/summary activity with the cards. Two video options: Vox (may be better for older kids): Freeschool (may be better for younger): As you watch, think of 1 question that someone who understood today’s lesson should be able to answer. Write the question on the front of your card. Write the answer on the back of your card.
