3 Warm-up Read the sentence below. Which word is the verb?

4 Lesson Add –s to the verb when the noun in the subject is singular.
Verbs show action in sentences. Verbs also tell when the action happens. A verb tells about an action that is happening now in the present time. Verbs in the present have two forms. The correct form to use depends on what the subject of the sentence is. Add –s to the verb when the noun in the subject is singular. The dog barks at the snowman. Jill laughs. Do not add –s to the verb when the noun in the subject is plural. The boys shovel. Their parents start the car.
