3. Improvements in Transportation
Steam engine stemmed search for a cheap source of power
1765: James Watt figured a way to make the steam engine work faster without burning less fuel
1807: Robert Fulter built a steamboat called the Clermont
Water transportation improved creation of canals (man made waterways) in England
1800’s: British roads improved thanks to John McAdam
Equipped road beds with layer of stones for drainage

4. The Railway Age Begins
Steam-driven machinery powered English factories in the late 1700’s
1821: Engineer George Stephenson began working on the world’s first railroad line
1830: The Liverpool-Manchester Railway opened officially which was an immediate success

Created hundred of new jobs
Boosted England’s agriculture/fishing industries
