Female Hormones of the body
2
Puberty.. Why??
3
1. Once a month, a surge of hormones from the pituitary gland in the brain starts eggs maturing in the ovaries. The hormones also stimulate the ovaries to produce the female sex hormone oestrogen.

FSH also stimulates the ovaries to produce oestrogen.

FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) is secreted by the pituitary gland. It makes eggs mature in the ovaries. FSH also stimulates the ovaries to produce oestrogen.

Oestrogen is made and secreted by the ovaries. It stimulates the lining of the womb to build up ready for pregnancy. It inhibits (slows down) the production of more FSH.

As the oestrogen levels rise they inhibit the production of FSH and encourage the production of LH by the pituitary gland. When LH levels reach a peak in the middle of the cycle, they stimulate the release of a mature egg. 4. Other hormones involved in the menstrual cycle are LH (luteinising hormone) and progesterone.
