8 I was Zeus’s least favorite god, but I was still his 123rd son
I was Zeus’s least favorite god, but I was still his 123rd son! That’s my lucky number. Or was it 2? “Marnisus, I have bad news”, said Zeus. Although even I could tell he was holding back a big, huge smile. “You’re banished.” “What!?” I said kind of confused. “Fired, kicked out. Booted, gone, I’m giving you the axe”, he kept on going for five hours or so. Or was it five minutes? Honestly, what’s the difference! Artemis came along and pushed me out, and Zeus closed the gates. I went down to my favorite spot in the mortal world; the forest where the nymphs lived. They were tending to the trees (aren’t they always) when I came along to say hi. “Hi guys!” I yelled from a distance. All of them ran but one. “Hi, Marnisus!” she yelled back. “What happened?” “Zeus kicked me out.” I said, sadly. “Hmm…” She was thinking. At least, that’s what I think people do when they’re thinking. Is it? “I know!” she said happily. “Why don’t you prove to Zeus that you’re powerful by taking Atlas’s place and holding up the earth?” “But I can’t!” I exclaimed. “I’m not strong enough.” “What if I make you a potion out of some ingredients from the trees!” exclaimed the nymph. I obviously agreed. I like Olympus better than earth any day (No offence mortals!). So I waited a little bit for the nymph to make the potion. When she was done, I drank it and I suddenly felt strange. There was a small cottage nearby, and I was able to lift it up without breaking a sweat! “Neat!” I said happily. So I went over to Atlas. “Hey Atlas!” I yelled from, yet again, a distance. He rolled his eyes (which I’m pretty sure is a gesture for happiness) and said, “Hey, Marni.” That’s his nickname for me. We were pretty close. You know, before he held up the earth for a living. “Do you mind if I held up the earth for a little. I want to prove myself to Zeus.” He smirked and said, “Sure, Marni. No problem.” I grabbed hold of the earth, and Atlas went, well, I don’t know, honestly. I could see how it was all going to play out. Zeus and the other Olympians would love me when they saw my awesome strength. I would be the envy of Heracles. Zeus might even have given me a wife. It was so cool thinking about all that might happen. In fact, I was so distracted; I sort of, kind of, dropped the earth.
