Cynthia Kadohata did an amazing job mixing the dog handler group with the history of Vietnam. Her setting descriptions of Vietnam are nearly perfect, and she describes how life is very well too. However, I had already expected it to end the way it did so, it wasn’t a very satisfying ending for me. Kadohata did do a good job of making this story seem realistic.
