“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young” (Isaiah 40:11).

Paraphrase Isaiah 40:11
8
Paraphrase Isaiah 40:11 - Divide the original into ideas, and list each idea separately in a column on the left. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
9
Paraphrase - Begin re-writing idea for idea.
Don’t leave any ideas out; don’t add any new ideas. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Christ… will nourish… those that follow and depend on him
10
Paraphrase – Watching punctuation marks helps you decipher the meaning.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him As… a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: (colon)
11
Paraphrase – When you have your new ideas listed, put them in the best order.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: (colon) Christ… will take in from all their scattered places… the innocent and most vulnerable… using his power to protect
12
Paraphrase – The new order will be pleasing to read and add to understanding.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: Christ will find and take into his protective power the innocent and most vulnerable from all their scattered places,
13
Paraphrase - Continue re-writing idea for idea.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: Christ will find and take into his protective power the innocent and most vulnerable from all their scattered places, and help them along… because he loves them unconditionally,
14
Paraphrase – Consider the order of what you write.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. . Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: Christ will find and take into his protective power the innocent and most vulnerable from all their scattered places, and help them along because he loves them unconditionally, and will kindly, with no impatience… show the way—never leaving any behind or without protection… the most vulnerable of his followers--.
15
Paraphrase – Seek for understanding and beauty.
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young. . Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: Christ will find and take into his protective power the innocent and most vulnerable from all their scattered places, and help them along because he loves them unconditionally, and will stay near the most vulnerable of his followers, kindly showing them the way, with no impatience—never leaving any behind or without protection.
16
Paraphrase - Note alternate meaning of final phrase.
(alt) and will be the best example of mildness… to those who will one day be charged with showing others the way. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

Original: “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young” (Isaiah 40:11). My Paraphrase Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: Christ will find and take into his protective power the innocent and most vulnerable from all their scattered places, and help them along because he loves them unconditionally, and will stay near the most vulnerable of his followers, kindly showing them the way, with no impatience—never leaving any behind or without protection. Christ will nourish those that follow and depend on him as a good master who tends, guides, feeds, and guards those whose lives depend on him: Christ will find and take into his protective power the innocent and most vulnerable from all their scattered places, and help them along because he loves them unconditionally, and will be the best example of mildness to those who will one day be charged with showing others the way.

Now comes a new scripture and a different message.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matt. 11:28-29).
19
And to help us notice the change in the message, there is a key change (from F to B♭) and a voice change (from alto to soprano). Listen again and ask yourself: How do these musical changes add to understanding?
20
You paraphrase Matthew 11:28-29
