Newton’s 2nd law
2
Explain Newton’s Second Law of Motion
Second Law: The change in acceleration with which an object moves is directly proportional to the magnitude of the force applied to the object and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
3
Explain Newton’s Second Law of Motion
What does that mean?? The acceleration of an object is dependent upon two variables - the net force acting upon the object and the mass of the object.
4
Lets Try it Out!! Click here to do the activity to find the formula for Acceleration!
5
Explain Newton’s Second Law of Motion
Represented as F=Ma Describes motion created by unbalanced forces Mass and acceleration change in opposite ways…
6
Explain Newton’s Second Law of Motion
The more mass an object has, the more force it take to accelerate the object, the slower it accelerates The less mass an object has, the less force it take to accelerate the object, the faster it accelerates
7
What is the difference in these animations?
Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object).
