Education Nazis used schools to indoctrinate the young
They decided what was to be taught and emphasised the subjects need to make ‘ideal Nazis’ Geography lessons explained the harshness of the Treaty of Versailles Physics lessons focused on weapon making Even maths lessons involved information about bombing Jewish ghettos In all subjects there was the repeated message that the Aryan race was superior and the blacks, Jews and eastern Europeans were inferior

Teachers All teachers joined the National Socialist Teachers’ league (NSLB) The League had few members at first, but soon expanded to hold 97% of teachers To be promoted, teachers had to be good Nazis During hyperinflation, teachers were badly affected sp turned to the Nazis in hope for some money. They were disappointed. No improvements in pay, training or status. Teachers soon became very disillusioned with the Nazis

New Schools Bernhard Rust appointed Reich Minister for Science and Education Set up the first National political Educational Institutions on Hitler’s birthday They were designed to hold future Nazi leaders These 23 schools were run by the SS after 1936 However, the leaders of the Hitler Youth did not want to leave education in Rust’s hands Therefore, they set up 10 of their own elite schools and for more training, they could go to any three of the Nazi Colleges

Changes to the Curriculum
Took control over all German schools German was retuned to show example of Nazi success German, History, Biology and P.E were among the important subjects Students, both boys and girls, had to do at least 5 hours of P.E per week Anyone with disabilities was refused secondary education They chose subjects which Hitler thought would get ideas across History showed how great the Nazis were Textbooks rewritten Motherhood and military training was also very important in schools Students had to know the importance of racial marriage and having children
