Is the Civil War “Civil?”
Log into Discuss possible answers to the following questions? What is a civil war? What were the issues that divided our nation and led to the Civil War? What was Virginia's role in the Civil War? Who are some important people in the Civil War?

Who or What am I Put a name tag on each student’s back with a person’s name or event from the American Civil War era. Give each student a note card. Students move around the room gathering clues so they can find out who/what they are After about 10 minutes, have students read their clues and make a guess.

How much do you know about the Civil War?
On the note card Write your name. Write a number, ranking how much you think you know about the American Civil War. 5 know a lot (battles, people, causes, etc) 3 know some 0 know nothing Group students into partners based on the number they chose for themselves.

Civil War K-W-L Chart What I know What I want to know What I learned
This presentation would be done using “SmartBoard” Technology. Students would fill in the KWL while working in groups. The groups are formed based on students ranking of how much they think they know about the civil war. Then come together as a class to fill in a class chart.
