There are 2 laws to ensure consumers are sold quality products…
Trade Descriptions Act
Any claim the manufacturer makes MUST be true e.g. what it is made from, how it has been made, who made it, what it can be used for.
What companies say in writing/advertisements must be true.
Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1979
This protects the consumer when they buy goods.
The goods must fit the description, good quality, fit for purpose.

5. Products are labelled to show they meet safety standards.
Products HAVE to be safe to use…
Products are labelled to show they meet safety standards.
Lion Mark
Shows the toy has been made by a member of the British Toy and Hobby Association – strict safety, marketing and ethical guidelines.
CE Mark
This is the manufacturers claim that the product meets the essential safety standards, allowing it to be sold throughout Europe.

6. Fire Regulations…
Furnishing fabrics must have a layer of non-flammable fabric underneath. Stuffing must not catch fire from a smouldering cigarette. Done through testing.

7. Questions to ask… Are materials/components suitable for function?
Have I selected materials/components suitable for the intended user?
Are the dyes/paints safe/non toxic?
Are the fabrics flammable?
