Function: Collects and transports interstitial fluids (extracellular) which helps rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials into the blood to then be filtered. Prevents a build up of fluids surrounding cells in tissues

3 Unit 12: Lymphatic System
Structures and Functions: Lymph: Colorless liquid made of Water, Proteins, and Lymphocytes Lymphatic Vessels: Collect Lymph and return to it to veins. Uses Peristalsis, One-Way Valves, and Muscle Contraction to circulate Lymph Lymph Nodes: Filters the Lymph and removes impurities such as carbon, cancer cells, pathogens and dead blood cells; also produces Leukocytes and Antibodies Spleen: Filters blood for the Lymphatic System and stores Lymphocytes and Macrophages to kill pathogens in blood. Liver: Produces Lymph

Splenomegaly – Swollen spleen due to infection. No symptoms? , pain, fatigue, anemia, frequent infections. Cause:? Epstein-Barr Virus (Mono)

7 Unit 12: Lymphatic System Disorders
Lymphedema – Blockage, radiation scarring, or cancerous lymph vessels/nodes cause tissue swelling.
